Villanovaforru is located in the centre of the
Marmilla hills, that dominate the areas of
Cagliari and
Oristano (the so-called "Campidani). Today, this small village situated between the cities of Cagliari and Oristano, has about 700 inhabitants. Lately, Villanovaforru occupies a superior position compared to its earlier times, thanks to the discovery of the nuraghe
Genna Maria and to the opening of the
Archaeological Museum. Such attractions are important references, both from a cultural and tourist point of view.
The municipal Archaeological Museum was set up inside an important historical building dating back to the XIX century.
The exhibits are not limited to those found during the Genna Maria's excavations, but also exhibits from different settlements in the surroundings of Villanovaforru - Pinn'è Maiolu, Baccus Simeone, Sant'Antiogu, Marramutta, Perdu Procu e Prascocca.
In every part of the year, The Pro- loco Association organizes different kinds of cultural events, such as exhibitions and seminars, in cooperation with The Archaeological Museum.
Typical town festivals, such as the
Patron Saint festival and
Santa Marina festival (July, 16-17th) are also worthy of mention..
